- Example engagement. Standardize new-hire setup with an access checklist, device configuration, documented ownership, and a repeatable request process.
- Ways to engage. A focused assessment, a defined implementation project, or a separately scoped improvement engagement. Support arrangements and response expectations are agreed in advance.
Enterprise consultation
Clarity for complex environments.
Targeted consultation that works alongside your internal IT, architecture, security, and business teams.
- Scope. Stakeholder discovery, application and service inventories, data-quality review, operational process mapping, technology requirements, and executive or meeting-technology needs.
- Deliverables. Findings and dependencies, decision options, ownership recommendations, a phased roadmap, and documentation your teams can act on.
- Example engagement. Reconcile an application portfolio across stakeholder input and existing tools, identify missing ownership and attributes, and build reporting that exposes the next decisions.
- Delivery approach. Agree on boundaries, stakeholders, and acceptance criteria first. Pilot changes, review outcomes, and prepare a controlled handover before broader rollout.
IT frameworks & service improvement
Structure that earns its place.
Apply established practices at the scale you need—from a simple request checklist to a defined service-management improvement plan. Start with the business problem and select the relevant practices.
- ITIL foundations. Map requests, incidents, recurring problems, change decisions, service ownership, and continual improvement. Outputs can include a service catalog, escalation paths, change checklist, knowledge articles, and useful measures.
- ISO/IEC 20000-1 reference. Use service-management requirements to guide discussion of service definition, responsibilities, delivery, review, and improvement. Outputs can include a process inventory, documented responsibilities, and an improvement backlog.
- ISO/IEC 27001 reference. Structure conversations about information assets, access, risks, responsibilities, and evidence. Outputs can include an asset/access inventory, an initial risk register, and prioritized actions for your security team.
- Agile delivery. Turn a roadmap into prioritized, reviewable increments. Use a visible backlog, agreed acceptance criteria, regular reviews, and retrospectives; apply Scrum where the team and engagement support it.
- Practical application. A small business might need a reliable onboarding checklist. A growing team may need service ownership and a change process. An enterprise may need a scoped assessment and phased improvement roadmap.
IT Support
Remote and on-site assistance with computers, applications, and the tools you rely on. Troubleshooting starts with identifying the cause, explaining the options, and agreeing on the work.
- Computer troubleshooting. Diagnose performance issues, application errors, operating system problems, and device connectivity across macOS, Windows, and Linux.
- Device setup and migration. Configure new computers, transfer files and user settings, install applications, and connect printers and peripherals.
- Email and productivity tools. Help with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace configuration, mail access, calendars, file sharing, and synchronization.
- User and device administration. Account setup, permissions, device enrollment, and configuration for supported management platforms.
- Guidance and handover. Explain changes, document relevant settings, and walk you through the tools you need to use.
Networks & Security
Design, configuration, and troubleshooting for home and small-business networks, with attention to coverage, reliability, and who can access your devices and data.
- Network assessment. Review the existing router, switches, access points, and internet connection. Investigate slow speeds, dropouts, coverage gaps, and other connectivity issues.
- Wi-Fi and wired networking. Plan equipment and access point placement; configure routing, switching, and wireless settings to suit the space and connected devices.
- Network segmentation. Use VLANs and firewall rules to separate work devices, guest access, and connected equipment where supported.
- Secure remote access. Configure VPN access and appropriate permissions for reaching approved devices and resources from outside the network.
- Connection resilience. Assess secondary internet connections and configure dual-WAN failover on compatible equipment.
- Security configuration. Review firewall settings, administrator access, multi-factor authentication, endpoint protection, and encryption options.
- Documentation and validation. Record the network layout and key settings, then verify connectivity and intended access restrictions.
Custom Hardware
Custom PCs, workstations, and home servers planned around the applications you run, the performance you need, and your budget. Support is available for new builds and existing machines.
- Workload and component planning. Match processor, graphics, memory, storage, and connectivity to your use case, including content creation, demanding desktop work, and local AI workloads.
- Compatibility and upgrade planning. Check motherboard support, power requirements, physical clearances, cooling capacity, and options for future expansion before selecting parts.
- Assembly and configuration. Build the machine, install cooling, organize cabling, configure BIOS/UEFI settings, and install the operating system and required drivers.
- Performance and thermal tuning. Review fan behavior, temperatures, power settings, and memory configuration to balance performance, stability, and noise.
- Testing and validation. Check component operation, storage health, temperatures, and stability under relevant workloads before handover.
- Upgrades and diagnostics. Assess bottlenecks, investigate hardware faults, and recommend targeted upgrades or repair options, including board-level assessment where appropriate.
- Build documentation. Provide the component list, relevant configuration details, and practical guidance for maintenance and future upgrades.
Automation & Reporting
Streamline recurring tasks and make operational information easier to use.
- Workflow review. Identify repetitive steps, manual handoffs, and opportunities for automation.
- Power Automate. Configure workflows for supported applications and validate their triggers and actions.
- Power BI. Prepare data and build dashboards that highlight relevant activity, trends, and exceptions.
A/V & Meeting Support
Setup, configuration, and troubleshooting for meeting spaces, recording, and live streaming.
- Audio. Configure microphones, mixers, and recording interfaces; balance levels and adjust equalization.
- Video and streaming. Set up cameras, video feeds, overlays, and compression hardware for the intended workflow.
- Meeting spaces. Connect room equipment, validate audio and video, and provide user guidance and executive meeting support.
AI on your infrastructure.
Run compatible AI models on hardware you control. From assessing your existing computer to configuring a dedicated local AI system.
Local inference can run without sending prompts to a cloud model.
What a setup can include
- Hardware assessment and recommendations
- Compatible local model installation
- A chat interface for day-to-day use
- Configuration, walkthrough, and usage guidance
Choosing the right approach
Start with the work you want AI to support, the data involved, and your budget. Model size and hardware determine speed and capability. A local setup may suit drafting, exploration, or selected internal workflows; suitability is assessed for each project.
Privacy & connectivity
A fully local setup is possible with compatible models. Downloads, updates, optional cloud tools, and remote access have their own connectivity requirements. We'll clarify those connections and how data moves before implementation.
Local operation alone does not replace device security, access controls, or backups.Performance and features depend on hardware, model choice, and project scope.
About Joe
I'm Joe. I've spent more than 20 years working with technology—from repairing electronics at the board level to supporting executives and working across enterprise IT environments. I created TechJoe as a personal brand for that work: a direct connection to the person who will help you understand the problem and find a practical way forward.
My background spans Apple, Microsoft, Google Workspace, and Linux, along with networking, security, custom hardware, and A/V. What connects those interests is curiosity about how things work—and how to make them work better for the person using them.
I sing, beatbox, and produce music. That creative side sits alongside my technical work, from audio interfaces and mixers to EQ, recording, and live production. Sound is both a personal passion and something I've spent time learning to shape.
My own setup is a place to explore: segmented networks, VPNs, firewalls, and local AI models. I run a private AI lab and experiment with interfaces and automation to understand where these tools can be useful in everyday work.
I also work on games, including Nexus Infinite Engine. It's another outlet for the same mix of technical problem-solving and creativity—turning an idea into something you can interact with, then refining it as it grows.
